Evelyn J. Ehrhardt, 95, of Burlington, Kansas (formerly of El Dorado), passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Burlington.

She was born April 7, 1915, in Anderson County, Kansas, the daughter of Frederick and Ella (Lazenby) Edwards. She spent most of her childhood on the family farm in rural Woodson County. She attended Finney School through the 8th grade. She attended Yates Center High School until she was needed at home at the time of her father's illness and death.

She was joined in marriage to Orville A. Ehrhardt on December 24, 1934, and they were the parents of three children. They made their home in rural Woodson County until moving to Gridley, followed by Greensburg, El Dorado, and Wichita, Kansas.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. She worked diligently within the Methodist Women's organization, being honored with the Cross of Service while at Greensburg. She was instrumental in starting a volunteer service at the Greensburg Hospital. She had received her 50-year pin as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in many positions, including a State appointment. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the El Dorado Travel Club, traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Nova Scotia and the Caribbean. She was an avid reader and traveled to faraway places by literature when she was no longer physically able to travel.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family and all events of the family. She enjoyed gardening. When her children were small, she had beautiful vegetable gardens and later many beautiful flowers and roses. After spending her childhood on a farm, she loved the out of doors. She was an even-tempered, intelligent and independent woman.

Her death came on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Life Care Center in Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 1976. She also was preceded by a daughter and son-in-law, Orva Jean and John Kraft, one sister and one brother who died in infancy, five brothers and two half-brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one son, Wayne Ehrhardt and wife Arlene of Malta Bend, Missouri; one daughter, Karen Kaufman and husband Raymon of Burlington; one brother, Raymond Edwards of Oxford; ten grandchildren, Debra Birk of Overland Park, Jane Robertson of Malta Bend MO, Dee Ann Goertzen of Gridley, Bradley Ehrhardt of Orlando FL, Nancy Navrude of Overland Park, Dawn Freeman of Gridley, Douglas Ehrhardt of Marshall MO, David Kraft of Gridley, Carol Ehrhardt of Bolivar MO, and Timothy Kaufman of Eudora; twenty-four great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other friends and family.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 28, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Gridley. Burial will follow at Askren Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends for visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
