Raymond Presley Edwards was born on a farm north of Yates Center Kansas, the son of Fred M. and Ella Lazenby Edwards. He was 92 years, 6 months and 25 days old. He attended Finney Grade School through 8th grade and then helped his mother on the farm. He was self educated and completed the GED in 1963.

August 1, 1944 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Irene Patterson in Yates Center. They were married for over 64 years. They had 4 children: David Hershal, Diana Rae, Donna Jeanne, and James Lynn.

Raymond made his home in El Dorado from 1959 - 2009. He had worked as a roustabout for Skelly Oil for 15 years and for Circle School District for 23 years as a custodian.

Raymond served in the military during World War II in the US Army as a D-5 Corporal Technician with the 41st Infantry Division in the Philippines. He re-enlisted and went to Europe after the war ended.

He was a member of the First Christian church in El Dorado for over 50 years and faithfully read his Bible every morning.

Evelyn preceded Raymond in death on February 13, 2009. He then married Jean Way Rodman on September 12, 2009 in Oxford, Kansas. They enjoyed taking trips and visiting friends.

He leaves his wife, Jean, of the home; daughter, Donna (Larry) Wolf of Huntsville, TX; a son, Jim (Susie) of Fort Worth, TX; Judy Franklin (Nathan Zaikai) of Honolulu; Sally (Eric) Martell of Orlando, FL; Joe (Janet) Zeeman of Orlando, FL; Wayne (Patti) Rodman of Grove OK; Janet (Dwight) Carrington of Eureka, KS; Don (Judy) Rodman of Amarillo, TX.

He was preceded in death by Evelyn, his parents, a son, David; a daughter, Diana Walker; and great grandchild; five brothers, Gail, Floyd, Hugh, Arthur, and Ralph; His sister, Evelyn Ehrhardt.

Services: Gathering on Wednesday, Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Funeral on Thursday at First Christian Church, El Dorado. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center, KS.
