He committed suicide. Mr. Cowell was 59 years old and was born in Woodbridge. When a young man he went to Massachusetts and learned the photographer's trade. He then returned to New Haven and opened a gallery on Chapel Street. Fortune favored him from the beginning, and it was not long before he became the most prominent photographer in town. He carried on the business until a few years ago, when he was succeeded by Orrin H. Hull, who learned the trade under Mr. Cowell. For the past year or more Mr. Cowell had been employed by Photographer Hayes, both in this city and in and about New London.
Mr. Cowell married in the south, but his wife died a short time after they came north to live. They had no children, but adopted a daughter who is still living. He leaves five brothers and two sisters.
No stone for him or wife.
