SMITHDALE - Edward R. Lofton, 77, of Smithdale, died Dec. 11, 1996, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at Brookhaven Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Baptist Church in Franklin County until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Lofton was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Lincoln County. He was the son of Luke Lofton and Beulah Lofton.
He was a retired salesman for Lofton's Department Store and was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, where she (sic he) served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was an Army and Air Force veteran, having served in southern and northern France and at Normandy in World War II.
He received the American Defense Service Medal and EAMET Ribbon with five Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Lofton of Smithdale; one son, Gary H. Lofton of Bogue Chitto; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail L. and David DeBlanc of Jackson, La.; one brother, Lloyd Lofton of Smithdale; four sisters, Mable Stancil of Smithdale, Reba Nell Pevey of Morton, Joyce Smith of Brookhaven and Dot Smith of Bogue Chitto; six grandchildren, Shane, Bryson, Dan and Amber Lofton, all of Bogue Chitto, Kimberly D. Kelly of Brandon and Kristie DeBlanc of Jackson; and one great-grandchild, Brandon Kelly of Brandon.
