SAM S. SILVA - Sam Sabino Silva, city-county garbage department employee and well known hula instructor, died from heart disease at 2 p.m., Monday at his home at 3450 Hardesty St. He was born at Kapaia, Kauai, October 11, 1892, and came to Honolulu when six years of age, remaining here since. He was educated at St. Louis college. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Maria Silva; a daughter; Miss Esther Laukaieie Silva; a son, Samuel Antone Sabino Silva; a stepson, Manuel T. Silva; three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Silva Lachang, Mrs. Victoria K. Ano, Mrs. Annie S. Wood, and his mother, Mrs. Emma Kealiikekukahilikalelekalahikiolaokalani Fern, widow of Joseph J. Fern, first mayor of Honolulu. The body will be on view at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Silva’s mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Diamond Head Memorial park, with Father Robert of St. Patrick’s church officiating. -Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Tuesday Feb 4, 1936, page 3.
