D. Alonzo Williams was born at what is now known as Emerson corners, one and a fourth mile west of Metz, Ind., on October 26 1857, and died at his late home in Metz, Sept. 12 1921, aged 63 years, 10 months and 17 days. He was the son of Aaron and Hannah Gilbert Williams and one of thirteen children, of whom five are still living - Richard Williams of Jackson, Joseph, of Angola, George of Metz, and Mrs Emma Moor and Kate Sutton of Metz.
He was married on Nov. 5 1880, to miss Ella Smith of Metz, and these two people by their enduring energy and patience brought 14 children to manhood and womanhood - Vere, Bernice, Smith, Mabel, Phyllis and Jack at home; Bertha, now Mrs John Somerlott of Angola; Nannie, now Mrs. Earl Mead of Montpelier, Ohio; Zama, now Mrs. George Walters, of Deerfield, Ohio; Eva, now Mrs. Clyde Reese, of Metz; Lois, now Mrs. Earl Sewell, of Angola; Norma, now Mrs. Glen Castner of Jackson, Mich.; Weir who was married to Miss Lois Goudy. Mack, who preceded him in death, was married to Miss Marjorie Couch.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for over thirty years and of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was in the best of health until three years ago last March he suffered a stroke of Apoplexy and although he recovered to a certain extent, he has been failing and about a month ago he suffered another stroke and never recovered and passed away peaceably on Monday morning at about five o'clock.
Elder Couch, of Butler, officiated at the funeral services, Elder Belles assisting, at the Metz Christian Church, on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 10:00 o'clock. Interment in the Metz Cemetery.
