Mariettie Clay ASHBY Sharon was the second child of Bladen and Elizabeth FOSTER Ashby. She was born in Iowa where the family spent several months before traveling by covered wagon through Missouri to Kansas where they bought land that had been homesteaded near Prairie City, Kansas. (Prairie City is now Baldwin City.) After attending school, Ettie taught school for four years.
Mariettie was married to McKinzie Sharon at her parent's home on October 13, 1878. They had five children. McKinzie and Ettie lived various places before moving to Leroy, Kansas. Later they moved to a farm East of Burlington, KS, then to a farm northwest of Waverly, Kansas. When Ettie's husband died in 1930, she remained at the farm for seven more years, then moved into town to live with her fifth child, Lois. Three years later, on March 10, 1940, Ettie passed away in Waverly, Kansas.
