Alfred Thomas Whitener & Sarah Burch were married on Sep 3, 1843 in Gilmer Co, GA. Sarah was born ca 1826 in Rabun Co, GA; daughter of John Burch, Sr. & Mary Pinson Burch.

Alfred Thomas & Sarah Burch Whitener had 3 sons: John H. Whitener, Albert J. Whitener, and Joseph Ebenezer Whitener. Sarah died in 1851 in Gilmer Co, GA; her burial site is unknown.

On July 25, 1852, Alfred Whitener married Mary Ann Davis in Gilmer Co, GA. The names of Mary Ann's parents are unknown. By 1860, Alfred & Mary Ann had five more children.

On June 25, 1859, Alfred Whitener was ordained as a Baptist minister at the request of the Salem Baptist Church in Gilmer County.

The Alfred Thomas Whitener family left Georgia after the Civil War. By 1867 they were in Independence Co, AR, where they remained until after 1880. By 1888, they were in Navarro Co, TX - where his wife Mary Ann died.
