Margaretha - German spelling of names were often found in early records of old Lincoln Co, NC (portion that later became Catawba Co).
Margaret - (English spelling was used in the Georgia records.)

2. Alfred Thomas Whitener: b 14 Sep 1825, d 29 Oct 1906; married (1) Sarah F. Burch 03 Sep 1843, Gilmer Co, GA; (2) Mary Ann Davis 25 Jul 1852, Gilmer Co, GA. (See link to this son)
3. Martin Whitener: b 1827; d unknown; m Mary Ann Cody 26 Jan 1845, Gilmer Co, GA. Moved "west" after 1860. They had five children born in Gilmer Co between 1846-1859, and at least one additional child born in 1866. (Additional information is limited & unverified)
4. Michael Whitener: b 1829, d 1880; no marriage records found but listed in 1860 census with wife, Susan B., and three children: Cinthia C., 8; Margaret, 6; Mary M., 1. The 1870 census for Mike Whitner shows wife Margaret (later identified as Margaret Patterson) & 2 children - Willis A., 4; Mary M., 1. Michael Whtiener died in 1880; the 1880 census shows Margret Whitner, 40, with four children: Wilis A., 15; Malissa, 10; John W., 8; Hinson G., 6. (Additional information is limited & unverified)
5. Susannah Barbara Whitener: b 1832 d after 6 Jan 1857 in Gilmer Co, GA; burial site unknown. Married William Holt 13 Apr 1848, Gilmer Co, GA; they had four children. After her death, William Holt m Lucy Adeline Cody 4 Oct 1858. This family also moved "west". (Additional information is limited & unverified)
6. Philip Whitener: b 1833 d 1865; m Levina Searcy 9 Sep 1852, Gilmer Co, GA. Philip Whitener was killed in 1865 by a renegade gang that roamed the hills of north Georgia during the Civil War. Levina Whitener remained in Gilmer Co and is listed in 1880 census. (See link to this son)
7. Davidson Whitener: b 1834 d ca 1863 during Civil War. m Emily Searcy 1 Apr 1852 Gilmer Co, GA (date of marriage from Civil War pension file of Emily Whitener) (See link to this son)
8. Margaret Caroline Whitener: b 18 Sep 1838 d unknown; m Elbert Searcy 10 Feb 1853, Gilmer Co, GA. Joel Elbert Searcy was brother of Levina Searcy who married Caroline's brother Philip. On 27 Mar 1865 Elbert Searcy was killed by the same renegade gang that had killed Philip Whitener. On 9 Sep 1869 Margaret R. Searcy m James R. Plemmons in Gilmer Co, GA. On the same day her daughter Viana Elizabeth Searcy m John L. Plemmons. Both couples appear to have immediately moved on to Arkansas. (Additional information is limited & unverified)
