Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, 9 April 1912:

"FATALLY STRICKEN ON A TROLLEY CAR

Mrs. Sarah J. Hutchison Died Suddenly at the Home of H.E. Gamble

Mrs. Sarah J. Hutchison, widow of Joseph M. Hutchison, for more than a half-century residing at Hutchison's Curve, near Juniata, died suddenly of heart failure at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of H.E. Gamble, 401 East Sixth avenue. She left her home during the afternoon for the city to attend a reunion of her brothers and sisters at the home of the youngest brother, J.A. Lafferty of 1311 Sixteenth avenue on the occasion of his birthday anniversary. She became suddenly sick, and when the car reached the residence of H.E. Gamble she requested the conductor to have the car stopped. She got off and was only able to reach the Gamble residence and ring the doorbell. Mrs. Gamble came to the door, helped her in, and seated her in a chair, making her as comfortable as possible. She grew rapidly worse and expired in a few minutes.

Mrs. Hutchison was the daughter of Joseph and Amanda Lafferty, deceased, was born in Sinking valley on October 4, 1840. Her girlhood days were spent in Sinking valley, and on November 29, 1864, she married Joseph M. Hutchison and in 1865 they took up their residence at Hutchison's Curve where they spent the reminder of their lives, Mr. Hutchison preceding her to the grave on August 29, 1895. She was a devout Christian woman and was a member of the Juniata Presbyterian church. In former years she had been a member of the First church of this city. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. J.K. Hamilton, James K., R. Bruce, J. Mortimer and William Fay, all of this vicinity. She is also survived by these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Caroline Hutchison of Juniata, Mrs. William Hare, Mrs. Mary Dunn, Mrs. George H. Wray, John P., J. Blair and James A. Lafferty, all of Altoona. Her death was the first to occur in her own family of eight brothers and sisters in a period of forty years. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon, services to be conducted at the home at 2 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. A.A. Bird. Interment will be made in Hutchison cemetery."
