Altoona Mirror, October 28, 1898:

"Mrs. Amanda M. Lafferty, widow of Joseph Lafferty and mother of Undertaker J.P. Lafferty, died suddenly at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. George Wray, 1306 Third avenue, at 11:45 o'clock today of heart failure, a disease with which she had been ailing for a number of years. Deceased was born at Aetna Furnace, November 10, 1816, and had resided in this city for a number of years. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran church and was a devout Christian woman. Her husband preceded her to the grave on June 13, 1865, leaving her and twelve children to mourn his loss. Mrs. Lafferty was a kind and loving woman and much beloved by all who knew her. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Caroline, widow of Robert W. Hutchinson, Mrs. Sarah J., widow of Joseph Hutchinson, of Logan township, Mrs. Harriet Hare, Mrs. Mary Dunn, widow of James Dunn, and Mrs. George H. Wray of Altoona; Mr. J.P., J.B. and J.A. Lafferty, all of Altoona. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Caroline Crissman, of Missouri, and Mrs. Rachel Graffius, Petersburg, Huntingdon county, Alfred Sisler, of Williamsburg and J.R. Sisler, of Altoona."

"FUNERAL OF MRS. AMANDA M. LAFFERTY

The funeral of Mrs. Amanda M. Lafferty will take place from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. George Wray, 1301 Third avenue, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which interment will be made (at her special request beside her husband) in Hutchinson's [sic] cemetery, east of the city, conducted by her pastor, Rev. H.H. Stiles."
