Altoona Mirror, 27 January 1913:

"Mrs. Caroline Lafferty Hutchison died at 4:45 yesterday afternoon at the the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.P. Cox, 416 Eleventh avenue, Juniata, after an illness of several months of a complication of diseases incident to her advanced age. She was born at Etna Furnace on September 11, 1835, and was aged 77 years, 4 months and 15 days. She became the wife of Robert Hutchison, deceased, a farmer who was a pioneer tiller of Logan township soil, on territory now occupied by Greenwood cemetery and also owned part of the present site of Juniata borough. Mr. Hutchison about 1871 sold the acre of land that was the location of the first residence of Juniata and took great interest in the growth of the village up to the time of his death, fifteen years ago. His wife ever had at heart the welfare of those about her and found pleasure in a constant intimacy with the progress of the community. She was a woman of generous impulses, beloved as a wife and mother and truly esteemed by all who knew her. A consistent Christian and of lifelong activity in the Presbyterian church, she has ever been regarded as a worthy example of righteous living. Surviving are five children: John W. Hutchison and Mrs. E.P. Cox of Juniata, Oliver K. Hutchison and Mrs. Samuel Shank of Greenwood, and Mrs. Ella McNeel of Bellwood. Also three brothers and three sisters: A.P., J.B. and James Lafferty, Mrs. Harriet Hare, Mrs. Mary Dunn and Mrs. George Wray, all of Altoona. There are twenty-eight grandchildren. Funeral service will be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cox on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 and will be conducted by the Rev. Harry B. Vail, pastor of the Juniata Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in Hutchison cemetery."
