Miss Helen Armstrong

After six weeks of illness, Miss Helen Armstrong of 314 St. Olaf Avenue, died on Monday, November 19, 1973 at the Dilley convalescent unit of Northfield Hospital. She was 84.
Miss Armstrong, a native of this community, had been retired from teaching since 1954. Previous to that date, she had taught at Clark, South Dakota, and Austin, Minnesota.
Helen Pauline Armstrong was born in Greenvale Township, southern Dakota County, on June 28, 1889, the daughter of James and Ellen (Raleigh) Armstrong. She attended the Greenvale rural school, graduated from Bethlehem Academy at Faribault, attended Mankato State College and received her degree from the University of Minnesota.
A teacher who extended herself beyond the actual requirements of her work in assisting her pupils, she also found time through the years for a great deal of reading and for writing poetry. She was a member of the church of St. Dominic, its Women's Council, St. Theresa's Unit and St. Dominic study group as well as the Third Order of St.Dominic.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews- James Mulligan of Santa Clara, CA., Milton Mulligan of Anchorage, Alaska, Mozart Mulligan of Northfield, Mrs. Lucy Dickson of New York City, Leonard Armstrong of Janesville, Wisconsin, Mrs. Winchester Kelso(Mary) of Fort McPherson, GA. Mrs. Royce Buck (Helen) of La Jolla, CA. Mrs. Frank Long of Northfield; also great-niece, Mrs. Curtis Olson of Northfield and a great-nephew, Thomas Mulligan of Rout 3 Northfield.
The funeral Mass was conducted at the Church of St. Dominic on Wednesday forenoon, November 21. The Rev. Vincent O'Connor officiated. Interment was in Annunciation cemetery at Hazelwood.
