Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ellen Armstrong Tuesday morning in the church of St. Dominic at 9:00 o'clock when a solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated. Burial was made in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery at Hazelwood. Three grandsons, James O'Donnell, Emmett Mulligan and Leon Mulligan and three nephews, Thomas Armstrong, Bernard Raleigh and Leo Raleigh served as pallbearers.
Ellen Raleigh was born in Covington, Kentucky, on May 12, 1851. She accompanied her parents to Stillwater in 1857 where they made their home for three years before moving to Oakdale. On August 18, 1867, she was married to James Armstrong. In 1889, they moved to Hazelwood where they established their home. Mr. Armstrong died there in 1904. For the past fourteen years Mrs. Armstrong had made her home in Northfield.
Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong; four of whom died in early childhood. She is survived by four daughter, Mrs. Mary O'Donnell of Hopkins; Mrs Margaret Mulligan, Misses Agnes and Helen Armstrong of this city and two sons, John and William. She is also survived by three brothers, William and Michael Raleigh of Oakdale and Thomas Raleigh of New Richmond, Wisconsin as well as 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
