Hezekiah C. Swisher, son of Jesse R. and Rebecca Swisher, was born in Johnson County, Ohio, August 2, 1841, and died at Luray, Missouri, March 28, 1923, aged 81 years, 5 months, and 26 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Clara Anderson, September 17, 1863. To this union were born two sons and two daughters, William and James at Luray; Mrs. Ida Kelley of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Mrs. Abe Hawkins of Luray.

Early in life he professed faith in Christ and joined the Disciples Church with his wife at Luray, later transferring his membership to Granger, remaining true to God and the church until the summons to come home.

Brother Swisher had been afflicted for several weeks but bore his suffering partially knowing that the suffering of this present world is not to be compared to the joy of the world to come.

He leaves to mourn their loss, one brother John J. of Luray and one sister, Mrs. Mary Gibbs of Luray, four children and 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

His wife preceded him in death February 24, 1900. Mr. Swisher had been living at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Abe Hawkins, where he received the kind and affectionate care of his children, all of whom were with him during his affliction, but in spite of filial devotions and tender care, death claimed him. The body returned to the ground and the soul went home to God to occupy the mansion prepared for all who love the Lord.

Funeral services were held at the M. P. Church Thursday afternoon, March 29, conducted by the pastor. Interment in Combs Cemetery.
