The Rev. James Thomas Alford, 75, of Jonesboro died on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at his home after a long illness.

The Rev. Alford was born on Aug. 21, 1934, at Blytheville to the late Jimmy Alford and Annie Mae Wicker Alford.

He was a retired Assembly of God pastor of 53 years, former senior adult pastor for First Assembly of God in Jonesboro, pastor for Happy Home Assembly of God in Hampton and chaplain for Calhoun County Detention Center. He also served as pastor for several churches in Oklahoma and Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Freda Alford; two daughters, Beverly Brooks and husband Rodney of Duncan, Okla., and Brenda Sipes and husband Mike of Jonesboro; three brothers, Jimmy Alford of Sikeston, Mo., Harold Alford of Hot Springs and Frank Alford of West Memphis; two sisters, Ophelia VanHorn of Marion and Carolyn Richardson of Blytheville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

The Rev. Alford was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Burley Alford and Pat Alford; and two sisters, Lela Mae Alford and Ola Mae Petty.

Funeral services were held in the First Assembly of God, 1404 Stone St., Jonesboro with the Revs. Charles Taylor, Don Nance and Dewitt "Doc" Porter officiating. Burial was in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland.
