Jeff's father was Louis Charles Startz, Jeff's grandfather was Johann F. Startz who immigrated from Germany to The Republic of Texas in 1844.

Jeff's mother was Mary Jane Holdman Startz

American spelling is Startz; German spelling is Starz and pronounced the same; a descendant of the Starz line from Fachsenfeld, Aalen County, Wurttemberg, Germany.

Jeff was the one of eight children of Louis Charles Startz and Mary Jane Holdman, both are buried in Wallace Creek Cemetery. Jeff did some farming/ranching all of his life in the San Saba County area of Texas. He served in World War 1, Private, Company D, 142nd Infantry Regiment. Jeff married Eva Mae Anderson on 12/22/1920 by San Saba County Judge W. V. Dean. The 1930 census confirmed the family living in San Saba, Texas. Eva was born 8/20/1901 Silver Valley, Coleman, Texas, died 12/27/1971 San Saba, Texas. They had one child, a daughter: Ruth Inez Startz born 9/19/1923 and passed 4/18/2002; married Hal Dufner 6/17/1939 at the First Baptist Church in San Saba, Texas. Hal Dufner b.9/23/1916 Hallettsville, TX, d.2/6/1990 San Saba, TX. Hal and Ruth served hunting guides/cooks for hunting outfilts in Texas. Ruth and Hal are buried in Wallace Creek Cemetery, next to the south fence, mid way back. Jeff is buried immediately to the left of his parents Louis Charles and Mary Jane Startz. Eva Mae Anderson is buried in an unmarked grave, could be left of her husband Jeff. Eva could also be located next to other Anderson family members that are adjacent to Hal and Ruth Dufner (south fence/mid way back).

Ruth and Hal had three children: (1st) Larry Hal Dufner b: 1/10/1943 in San Saba, TX. d: 3/4/1990 from an accidental gun shot while hunting, he is buried in Wallace Creek Cem; (2nd) David 1945 in San Saba, TX.; (3rd) Howard 1949 in San Saba.

On March 15, 2021, my brother David, discovered Jeff's memorial plaque, buried under about four inches of dirt/grass. We cleared the soil away and took pictures. Jeff is buried to the left of his nephew Charlie (and wife Jerrie), or third spot left of Jeff's parents Louis/Mary Startz. The families are located in the far southwest quadrant of the Wallace Creek Cemetery, about 50 feet south of the biggest tree on the main road.

Please join the family history project, email info, corrections, pictures to P. Startz. This is a work in progress, more to come. Revised 3/16/2021 - added picture of Jeff's memorial plaque.
