Robert was the son of William Lisha Vanderpool and his 2nd wife, Fanny Leota Emanuel.

Funeral services for Robert H. Vanderpool were held at the Hastings Methodist Church Tuesday, January 13, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. M. G. Ossman. Burial was in the Hastings Cemetery with Mansfield Funeral Home in charge. Casket bearers were Donald Robbins, W. A. Courtier, Wayne Crawford, Floyd Starr, Jack Largent, and Charley Hall. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. William Pickering and Mrs. Herbert Stogdill. Jane Risud and Jean Allen sang, "Jesus is Calling" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Mrs. Jennie Harold. Robert Herbert Vanderpool, son of William and Fannie Emanuel Vanderpool was born March 11, 1905 at Mill Grove, Missouri and departed this life January 9, at his home in Hastings, Iowa aged 53 years, 9 months, and 29 days. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of 12, which they made their home in Mills county with the exception of a few years he spent most of his life in the Hastings community. He was united in marriage to Miss Maple Buck of Mellen, Wisconsin, September 3, 1925. To this union was born four children, Mary, William, LaDonna, and Loretta. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary in infancy and his wife Maple on November 17, 1936. He was united in marriage to Myrza Shook Clark on November 17, 1937. Upon this marriage he became the stepfather of four children, Earl, Wayne, Mary, and Deloris. Also to this union was born five children, Ben, Dan, Bob, Kaye, and Donald. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Wilma Cape, Mrs. Geo. Davis, and Nora, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Myrza, eight children, William M. Vanderpool of Fayetteville, N. C., Mrs. LaDonna Tippery of Omaha, six children at home, Loretta, Ben, Dan, Bob, Kaye, and Donald. Earl Clark of Onawa, Wayne Clark of Ames, Mrs. Mary Carley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Deloris Madsen of Moorehead, Iowa. 15 grandsons, two sisters, Mrs. Alma Findley of Powers, Oregon, Mrs. Ruby Hodge of Freewater, Oregon; six brothers, W. C. Vanderpool, Malvern, Jack Vanderpool, Red Oak, Max Vanderpool, Morce City, Washington, Gene Vanderpool of Maryville, Washington, Frank Vanderpool, Freewater, Oregon, Roy Vanderpool of Council Bluffs, also nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by the loving wife, children, and all other relatives and friends, but they will take comfort in knowing that he is at rest. (Malvern Leader, January 15, 1959, page 10)
