MRS. VANDERPOOL DIES AT HOME IN HASTINGS

Well Known Resident Succumbs to Heart Attack

Death came suddenly to a beloved resident of Hastings when Mrs. Fannie Leota Vanderpool succumbed to a heart attack Sunday evening shortly after she had retired for the night. She had not been ill before so her passing came as a shock to all who knew her.

The daughter of Mary Butcher and Jonas Emanuel, Mrs. Vanderpool was born in Knoxville July 4, 1875 and was 63 years, 7 months and 22 days of age at the time of her death. As a small child she went with her parents to Mill Grove, Mo.

She was united in marriage to William L. Vanderpool at Mill Grove Sept. 23, 1893, and to this union was born 12 children, 10 of whom and one stepchild survive her. Her husband preceded her in death four years. In August, 1917, the family moved from Missouri to Strahan where they lived a short time until they came to Hastings.

Mrs. Vanderpool was a lover of flowers and gardens and always had a bright garden of flowers growing about her home regardless of weather conditions. She was a kind neighbor and mother, always doing her best in whatever she undertook.

She is survived by her children: W. C. of Malvern; Mrs. Ray Shaffer, Waterloo; Robert, Swea City; Mrs. Frank Hodge, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Homer Cage, Silver City; Jack, Gene, Frank and Victor, Hastings; and her stepdaughter, Mrs. George Davis of Shenandoah.

She had 32 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Three sisters and a brother also survive: Mrs. Robert Kerr, San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. James McKain, Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Ed Etherton, Trenton, Mo. and Buford Emanuel, Princeton, Mo.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Hastings Methodist church. Burial will be in the Hastings cemetery.
