A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert Konkol, son of Sylvester, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pisarski/ Dzikoski Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the St. Faustina Room at the church. A general rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name will be established at a later date.
He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Amherst to the late Peter and Dora (Trzebiatowski) Konkol. He attended schools in Amherst. He entered the service on Nov. 19, 1943, in Milwaukee. He was a PFC in the Army/ Air Force and was honorably discharged in November 1945. His marriage to Ramona Herman took place on Nov. 18, 1944, at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel in Fancher. After the marriage, the couple settled in the Stevens Point area. Sylvester worked as a mechanic at various service stations, retiring from Schierl Service Center. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and polka music.
Survivors include his wife Ramona Konkol, Stevens Point; five sons, the Rev. Robert Konkol, Milwaukee, Richard (Aimee) Konkol, Appleton, Michael Konkol, Stevens Point, Larry (Karen) Konkol, Plover, and Bruce (Sheila) Konkol, Coeur D Alene, Idaho; three daughters, Karen (Robert) Purtell, Brown Deer, Debra Knutson, Coeur D Alene, Idaho, and Mary Kay Jenquine, Coeur D Alene, Idaho; two brothers, Jerome (Mary Ann) Konkol, Pewaukee, and Peter Konkol, Wisconsin Rapids; three sisters, Caroline Patoka, Menasha, Elsie Bauer, Amherst, and Lorraine (Joseph) Binter, Florida; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Mark; two brothers, Bob and Hubert; and one grandson, Todd.
