Amy was the daughter of John M and Edith McCarter Collins. She moved with several families including her parents and several siblings to Fayette County, Alabama in the mid 1830s. Some time after her sister Judah died, Amy married her sister's husband. She and William had a son, James Franklin, in 1853; William died shortly after that in 1855. Amy and two other widows, her stepdaughter, Eady Caroline Willis Ballenger, and her sister, Sarah F Collins Graham, lived together with their children for the remainder of their lives. She is buried in the church cemetery where her son, JF, was pastor several times and where the whole family had their church membership.
