Joseph a son of Andrew McCartney and Michele Roby. Enlisted in the CIVIL WAR Aug 21,1862 84th Indiana Vols Co E. Served with his father and 4 brothers. Married Rosetta Hester Aprril 24,1852 Randolph county Indiana.Children James W. 5-16-1854,John Andrew 1-4-1857.Alice A. 8-19-1861 and 3 died young. Rosetta died in 1864 and Joseph married Phoebe Doty Oct 9,1864 children. George 1865,Isabel 1869, Alvin 1876.
After Joseph and Phoebe Doty Luckey were married the family moved to Gridley, Coffey Kansas..
