George a son of Andrew and Jenetta Cook McCartney. served in the Civil War, Co F 75th Indiana Regt.
He married March 11,1866 to Margaret Wilkinson Hilton, after she passed in 1916 he married to Letitia Harkins in 1919 a widow of William H Harkins.

CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERS CALL

George McCartney, Civil war vetran and pioneer ressident of Jay county died suddenly at his home in Portland.
Mr. McCartney had been in usual health untill wednesday, noon, when he received word of the death of his brother Benjamin at Muncie, it is thought that the grief over his brothers death brought on the heart attack which caused his death.
Mr. McCartney was born in Virginia November 8,1843 he came to Jay county and later voluntered his service during the civil war.
Surviving is the wife Letitia McCartney, three grandchildren. Maud Allison Brumm, Claude McCartney and Frank McCartney, all of Cleveland Ohio and one great grandchild.
One sister Emma Aken of Springfield Ill, and two brothers, Whipple and John of Saratoga also survive, his brother Benjamin died Wednesday.
Funeral services were held sunday afternoon at the U.B. church in Portland, burial at Green Park Cemetery.
