1 Rebecca Rawlings Cason was born Sep 13 1826 in Culpepper Co. VA to Fendall Carr and Rebecca Rawlings (Holladay) Cason. She moved with her family to Missouri, where her father had a sawmill on the James fork of the White River, Green Co. MO. Rebecca married Peter Grant Stewart, a jeweler and watchmaker, in Springfield, Green Co Mo, on Sep 1, 1842. The young couple embarked on the journey over the Oregon Trail the following spring, traveling with the Cason family. A daughter, Catherine, was born on the trail but did not survive. One son, Frederick, died in August 23, 1863. The following month, she gave birth to a daughter, Nellie, on Sep 24 1863. Rebecca died the following week, on October 3, 1863, survived by a grieving husband, two sons and three daughters.
