MISSING BABY FOUND DEAD
Infant Son of Donald Parton Taken From Grave in Woods by Officers at 4 O'Clock Yesterday.
The body of a baby boy, about 2 months old, and said to have been identified as a son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Dan) Parton, of just southwest of Edina, was found by officers about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon buried in a shallow grave, about eighteen inches deep, in a thickly wooded tract across the road from the Parton home and which is owned by E. L. McCloskey, proprietor of the Edina Auction Company, and Tom B. Brown, circuit judge.
There have been rumors of a missing infant for several weeks and an investigation has been carried on by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and local officers for several weeks, and yesterday, after several hours of searching in the woods and digging, the little body was found, fully clothed and wrapped in a baby blanket, lying in the shallow grave.
Parton and his wife have been questioned by Charles E. Murrell, Jr., Knox County prosecuting attorney, and the patrol but so far they have been unable to give any satisfactory reason for the infant being buried as it was, without a burial permit.
The Partons have a small son, about 3 years old.
An inquest was called for this morning but the meeting was later changed to meet at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
