Richard Jones, Jr. Was Known in Early Days As Musician
Richard Jones, Jr. retired farmer, died at 8:50 o'clock Monday evening at the local
hospital following an illness of three months. He was born in London, England, September
21, 1850, a son of Richard and Naomi Parsons Jones, and came to Utah with his parents in
1863, walking across the plains with his father and brother, John.
He first lived in North Ogden, where his first wife Viola Cazier died in 1884. He was married to Clara E.
Judkins in Logan in 1885 and moved to Liberty. He lived in Liberty and Eden for a number of years and then for many years in Ogden, at 252 Thirty-first Street. He was a high priest in the L.D.S. church and served as Ward Clerk in Liberty. In his early days he played the violin and furnished the music at the pioneer dances.
Surviving are his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. W. S. Thurgaard,
Beaumont. Texas; Clarence Jones, Eden; Mrs. Phillip Ferrin, Blackfood, Idaho; Mrs. David E.
Chard, Liberty; Mrs. James O. Southwick, Ogden, Mrs. John Brown, Clark, Idaho; Newell
Jones, Louis Jones and Fred Jones of Ogden. Forty-nine grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Charles Jones,
North Ogden; Lee Jones, Lewiston, Utah; Joseph Jones, Ogden; Mrs. Davis Francis, Malad,
Idaho; Mrs. Joseph Rhods, Liberty; Mrs. Fred Barrett, Rexburg; Mrs. Melvin Godtery,
Cardston, Canada.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of Lindquist undertakers.
