Mary Henrietta, the second child of Charles Lewis and Lena Eva (Falk) Bowers was born near Furley, Sedgwick Co., KS, April 19, 1884. She was seven years old when she moved with her parents, by covered wagon to Cushing, Indian Territory, OK. She first attended school in Kansas and later in OK. near their new home in Cushing.
Mary was nineteen years old when she moved again, this time to what was then Oklahoma Territory and before it became the state of Oklahoma in 1907. She came with her mother and siblings shortly after her father and brother, Harry, had filed on land (now Harper Co.) a few miles from the present town of Gate, (Beaver Co.), OK. When she was twenty-one, she also filed on a quarter (160 acres) of land adjoining her father's land. She would later relinquish it to her brother, Paul.
On March 7, 1909, she married George Kenneck whose family were neighbors of the Bowers family. they established a home a few miles from her parents. Their five children were all born in this home where they first lived. Their children included: Gerald Earl; Carl Albert; Irene Pearl; Audrey Clare; and Eunice Ruby. George farmed the adjoining land. In August, 1927, they moved with their family to Englewood, Clark Co., KS and lived there until 1934 when they again moved, this time, to Wichita, (Sedgwick Co.), Kansas. George went to work for Beech Aircraft Corporation until he retired. He passed away August 1, 1957.
Mary continued to live in the family home in Wichita. She suffered a stroke in August of 1962 and as a result, poor health. She went to live at the Masonic home in Guthrie, OK, until her death on January 8, 1966. Mary and George are both buried in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
