Obituary
Dansville, Livingston county, New York.
Thursday, April 29, 1880

Isaac Fenstermacher.

It has been our sad duty many times during the past few months to chronicle the deaths of some of our most esteemed and aged pioneer citizens, but none of them is more justly deserving of commendation than Isaac Fenstermacher, whose death occurred last week Wednesday.

Mr. Fenstermacher was born in Northampton county, Pa., in 1796 and came to Dansville in 1816 where he has resided continually ever since.

His early occupation was that of a carpenter which trade be learned with his uncle, Solmon Shull.

In 1817 he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Shull and with whom he lived until 12 years ago when their union was severed by the death of Mrs. Fenstermacher.

Six children were born to them, four daughters and two sons. The daughters, Mrs. Harriet Pierson, Dansville, Mrs. Margaret Fraser, Milwaukee, Mrs. Elizabeth McCurdy, Dansville, and Mrs. Jennie Ray, Rochester, are all living and were present at their father's death. The sons George and Horace, who were born in Groveland, died some years since. Mr. Fenstermacher had resided in his late residence for 68 years and in it were all his daughters born and married.

In early times his house was never locked and frequently Indians would come at night and enter and sleep by his fireside, departing without disturbing any of the occupants.

Mr. Fenstermacher was baptized by the Lutherans when a child but attended the Presbyterian church here.

Mr. F. was paralyzed in his left side on the 6th of December last, since which time his health of body failed fast yet he retained his reason perfectly till two weeks ago last Sunday. Naturally of a strong frame and firm health be was long in his resistance to the advance of death. He knew almost to the last all his daughters and others who called.

His many friends will long remember him as a kind and goodhearted man and neighbor, who only wanted to do right and have right done to him and his family, will mourn him as an affectionate and indulgent father.

Since the death of his most estimable wife he has clung to his home, though so broken up, and he died at peace with all men and in Christian hope and charity.

The funeral service was held at his late residence on Saturday morning at 11 o'clock and was conducted by Revs. Ward and Brush.
