It has pleased God Almighty in His wise Providence to call home from long suffering, John W. Falk, departing in peace Monday morning, October 18, aged 70 years, 1 month and 11 days. He was born September 7, 1856, a son of John H. and Anna Falk at Mecklenberg, Germany. In 1858 he, with his parents, located in Prairie Township, Shelby County. He was baptized in his infancy, according to the usage of the Lutheran church. He was instructed and confirmed by the pastor, F. W. Schlechte of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, on May 3, 1870. At the age of 22, he engaged in a general merchandise business in Stewardson. However a year later he gave up his profession and went on a farm near there where he lived for about 10 years. He then removed to Herborn, where he again entered upon the general merchandise business. While living at Herborn he united with the Lutheran church. While living in Strasburg, he united with the Grace Lutheran church. Regarding his immortal soul, he was prepared to meet his God, yea longed to be with his Savior, in whose hands he committed his body and soul. The deceased is survived by the following children, Nora, wife of Thomas Weber, Strasburg; Walter, of Decatur, Harley and Elmer of Herborn; Miss Eva, of Strasburg; one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, one brother, Joseph of Strasburg; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Zalman and Mrs. Dora Rozene both of this place and a host of other relatives and friends.
