Funeral service for Art Cutler of Swea City was held Monday. May 4, 1998 in the First Baptist Church at Bancroft at 1:30 p.m. with the Revs. Donald Mueller and Paul Rudy officiating.
Interment was in the Harrison Township Cemetery at Swea City, with military's graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post #377 of Bancroft.
The Henry-Olson Furhman Funeral Home of Swea City was in charge of arrangements.
Art Cutler died April 30, (1998) at his home in Swea City at the age of 77.
Art was born May 23, 1920 at Bancroft, the son of Albert and Laura Vande Cutler. He received his education in the Bancroft schools, graduating from the Bancroft High School in 1937.
On Sept. 17, 1938, he was married to Harlena Lester of Swea City.
He served in the United States Army from November of 1943 to January of 1946 in the Corps of Engineers in the European Theatre, and also served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Art then worked for various farm implement companies as a tractor mechanic; then managed the tire department for Montgomery Ward for eight years in Grand Island and Nebraska City, NE.
The couple moved to Bancroft, and then to Swea City.
His wife, Harlena, died April 2, 1978, and his daughter, Donna, died Aug. 1, 1978.
On Jan. 5, 1979, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Anderson in Swea City, and Art was employed by Deitering Brothers Implement in Bancroft from 1973 until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bancroft where he served several terms as trustee and deacon; and was also a member of the Bancroft American Legion Post #377.
Surviving are his wife, LaVonne Cutler of Swea City; a daughter, Shelley Tea of Honolulu, Hawaii; step-daughters, Sheila, Mrs. David Mclllroy of Nashes, WA, Elaine and her husband, the Rev. Paul Rudy of Twin Lakes, WI, and Valerie, Mrs. Larry Freeze of China Grove, NC; step-sons, Charles Eggerth, Winston-Salem, NC, Darrell Eggerth, Lancaster, CA, Richard Eggerth of Armstrong, and Leonard Eggerth of Salisbury, NC. There are 20 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Other survivors are brothers-in-law, Lester
Frederiksen of Aplington and Bud Molan of Estherville; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Cutler of Waterloo.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, Harlena; daughter, Donna; sisters,
Blanche and Evelyn; and brothers, Harry and Leonard.
