-- CHESTER - Mrs. Frances Dewitt Peay, 81, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Chester Regional Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Bishop officiating.

Born in Chester, S.C., Sept. 18, 1928, a daughter of the late William Moffitt Dewitt and Catherine McWatters Dewitt, Mrs. Peay was a graduate of Chester High School and was former co-owner and operator of Peay's 76 Grocery Store.

She is survived by her son, Steve Peay of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Christopher Peay of Raleigh and Lindsay Peay of Clayton, N.C.; two brothers, Wilson and W.T. Dewitt, both of Chester, S.C., and one sister, Janie Mae Wages of Chester. Mrs. Peay was the widow of Robert Allen Peay and she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Allen Peay.
