Melvin died from cancer. He was the son of the late Mr Moffatt Dewitt and Mrs. Rachel Catherine McWatters Dewitt. A graveside service was held at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Sun May 18, 2003 at 2:30 Pm with the Rev Clay Waldrip officiating.
He was survived by 2 brothers Wilson Moffatt Dewitt and William Thomas Dewitt both of Chester SC. 2 sisters Janie Dewitt Wages and Frances Dewitt Peay both of Chester SC.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mildred Dewitt Peay and Margaret Dewitt Dove both of Chester SC.
Melvin was a bachelor and lived with his brother, sister, mother and nephew. He had previously run the Chester Trading Post in Chester SC. He enjoyed bluegrass music, reading and fishing most of all.
