Son of Samuel Burton Dampier and Mary Hodges

Marriage 1: Grace Jeter 27 October 1897 in College Park, Santa Clara County, California. Ended with her death in 1903.
Children:
Irene N. Dampier - 1898
Glenn Damper - 1901

Children:
Lee Oliver Dampier - 28 April 1904
Byron Edgar Dampier - 23 March 1906

Edgar came to California with his family from Texas in the 1890's. His was a life marred by family tragedies.

His daughter Irene died from burns in 1902 when her clothing caught on fire. This precipitated her mother's physical decline, she dying of pneumonia in 1903. His son Glenn died of scarlet fever in 1911.

From 1901 until 1916 he worked as a motorman on the San Jose and Santa Clara and the Peninsula railroads, with a couple of years as a bartender.

In the several years up to 1916 he was living on and off with his second wife, Florence, in San Jose. In 1917 and 1920 he is found as an ordnance worker at the Mare Island navy base in Vallejo. He continued to live in Vallejo until his death in 1930 of a heart attack.

His death spared him suffering another tragedy. His son, Byron Edgar Dampier, professionally known as Eddie Dampier, was a well known welter weight boxer in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1948 he committed suicide in despair over separation from his wife.
