Daughter of Samuel Burton Dampier and Martha Hodges

Marriage 1: Unknown Lucey circa 1903 as she reports her first marriage at age 17 in the 1930 census. She is a Lucey widow in the 1912 San Francisco city directory.
Possible daughter:
Merle - 8 October 1909 born in San Francisco

Marriage 2: Jeremiah Lucey circa 1913 - 1914 San Francisco as per city directory and 1920 San Francisco census in which she is with Jeremiah. Marriage ended with his death in 1923.
No Children

Marriage 3: Arnold Schori, a Swiss immigrant, after 1923 probably in San Francisco. Marriage ended with her death in 1944.
Adopted Son:
Jack Arnold Schori 7 May 1932 (deceased)

Dona, the last child of Samuel Burton Dampier and Martha Hodges, was born in Texas about 15 years after her parents brought the family from Florida. She came with the family when it again moved to Southern California. In 1900 she is living with her mother in San Jose - a school girl, with many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces living close by. Her father Samuel was estranged from the family and returned to live with his brother, Calvin in Valdosta, Ga., about 1905.

As with many large families she was the same age as her oldest nephew, Roly, son of brother Oliver Milton Dampier. She is remembered as one of the "colorful" Dampiers by the family.

Dona appears to have been an enterprising woman making her way in the world. Starting 1901-1903 she is working as a waitress in San Jose, joining Local 30 of the Hotel and Restaurant Employee's International Alliance.

At some point she moved to San Francisco. Her grand-niece Lucille Elaine Dampier remembered being taken to Aunt Dona's in San Francisco from San Jose in the early 1910's for occasional Sunday dinners. She and her brother Jerry remembered a rooming house with many attractive young women living there. Lucille also remembered a Dampier family get together at Aunt Dona's from which her mother left in a huff with kids in tow because alcohol was flowing too freely and things getting rather raucous.

Dona may have been running a boarding house for miners in Tonopah, Nevada,(1920 census) but this duplicates the 1920 San Francisco report with husband Jeremiah Lucey.
