OBITUARY
SERVICES HELD THIS AFTERNOON FOR MRS. WILDER
Death came to Mrs. Burrell Wilder, 66, Tuesday, after more than 4 years illness from multiple sclerosis. She died in her home at 900 Third St. at 8 a.m.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Tuesday) at 2 o'clock in the Johannsen Funeral Home.
Rev. D.R. Corrick of First Methodist Church officiated and R.C. Burr accompanied by Mrs. Burr, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
Serving as casket bearers were Pete Miller, John Miller, Joe Vopelak, Arthur Bagenstos, and Russell Taylor of La Porte City and Harold Walthers of Waterloo.
Burial was made in the family plot in West View Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilder was born Mamie Melica Sawyer, daughter of William P. and Virginia Sawyer, Sept. 26, 1890 in Staunton, Ill. She grew to womanhood there and on May 9, 1909 was married to Burrell Wilder at Staunton.
CAME HERE IN 1915
Since 1915 she had been a resident of La Porte City.
Surviving are her husband; five daughters, Mrs. W.T. Johannsen (Ruth) and Mrs. Harley Clark (Geneva), Des Moines; Mrs. Lyle Kline (Marie) and Mrs. Gale Ballheim (Lucille), La Porte City and Mrs. R.E. Wilson (Arlene) of Manchester; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Anderson Sawyer and Harrison Sawyer, Staunton and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Poore, Staunton; Mrs. Iola Scroggins, Miller, Mo. and Mrs. Floyd Sawyer, Wilsonville, Ill.
One son, Elmer, her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Christian Church at Staunton and was affiliated with First Methodist Church, La Porte City, where she attended and worked with the women's organizations as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of Thistle Rebekah Lodge and of the American Legion Auxiliary.
