Jessie Janet Stuart Coutts was the daughter of George & Helen Dickson Coutts. Jessie was born in Scotland. She married George Currie Clark on December 30, 1870 in Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. Naturalization: 1900, They became Naturalized citizen as of the 1900 Gilman federal census.


The couple's first four children were born in Scotland; Robert Currie, Helen Dickson, Grace Currie, & George Currie. Jessie, George and children came to America in 1878. The next four children were born in Ohio; James D, Jessie Stewart, Elspith Ann M, & Charles M C. Charles M C only lived one year and died at Newcastle, Washington. After arriving in WA two more children were born, Charles Mason C Clark and David C Clark.

Mrs. Clark Passes Away

Mrs. Jessie S. Clark, an early pioneer of Issaquah, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elspeth Darst, Sunday night at 12:15, after a long illness. Mrs. Jessie Coutts Clark was born in Scotland October 30, 1852..

She was married to Mr. George C. Clark in 1870. They came to America in 1878 and on to Washington ten years later; they have lived in Issaquah and vicinity for thirty-five years.

She is survived by nine children; Mrs Jessie Webster and Mrs. Grace Dobson of Renton; Mrs Ellen (Helen) Jones, Mrs Elspith Darst, and George, James, and Charles Clark of this town; Robert Clark of Tenino, and David Clark of Seattle; also by a brother Mr Robert Coutts of Issaquah.

Funeral services were held at Masonic hall Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Eastern Star, of which she was a member, assisting. The funeral sermon was given by Rev. Cannon Hilton of the Episcopal Church, Renton. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery , Renton, WA.
