Adolph R. Benish, age 67, of LaFarge, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 1986, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 9, 1919 at Dilly to Joseph and Josephine (Shaker) Benish. On November 26, 1941, he married Esther Trappe at Dilly. The couple lived in LaFarge all of their married lives. Adolph was a policeman in LaFarge for several years. He later owned and operated the LaFarge Outlet Store and also the LaFarge Theater until 1963. Mr. Benish then became the LaFarge Municipal judge for 13 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and later was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and received the Purple Heart for injuries in combat as well as other awards. He was a member of the Jones-Lawrence Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9075. He is survived and loved by his wife Esther; three sons, William (Marilyn) of LaFarge; Dale of Madison; Tony (Janell) of Madison; two daughters, Vicki (Larry) Parr of LaFarge; Sherry (Chuck) Rushman of Milwaukee; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; six brothers, Alvin, Raymond, Edwin, and Jim, all of Hillsboro; Joe of California; and Emil of Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23,1986, at 2 p.m. at the Lafarge United Methodist Church. Rev. Leslie Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery with military rites by the Jones-Lawrence Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9075. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Home, LaFarge on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and then also at the church from noon until the time of the service. WSJ 8/23/1986
