Harold Julius Gaines, youngest son of John B. and Effa Gaines, was born October 29, 1900, and departed this life Friday morning, November 14, 1924, aged 24 years, 16 days. He leaves to mourn his loss a loving mother, Coyla Andrews, his promised wife, four brothers, Sylvester, Wesley, Carl and Thomas; three sisters, Susie, Alma and Freda, besides a host of other relatives and friends. His father passed on to the great beyond in 1917. Harold was the youngest of a family of eight children, and he will be sadly missed. That vacant chair can never be filled but his loved ones mourn not as those that have no hope, as his last hours were spent in praising God and telling the loved ones around him what Jesus had done for him. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.

The funeral was conducted from the M. E. Church at Kirwin under the direction of M. A. Spaulding as undertaker. A ladies' quartette brought to the mourners the consolation of song, and Rev. George E. Jones of Agra delivered the funeral sermon. The popularity of the young man was attested by the fact that a large concourse of people from his home community south of Glade were in attendance to pay their respects to one whom they had honored in life. A long procession of automobiles followed the remains to the little cemetery on the hill northwest of Kirwin where the body was tenderly lowered to its last earthly resting place and where the loving friends had to say their last good bye.--Agra Sentinel
