Effie Jane Enyart, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Enyart, was born March 5, 1863, in Howard County, Indiana, and departed this life on October 16, 1959, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alma E. Gibson in Phillipburg, Kansas, at the age of 96 years, 7 months and 11 days.

When she was a little girl, with her parents, she came to Phillips County, Kansas, where they homesteaded north of Agra, Kansas.

On January 11, 1883, she was united in marriage to John B. Gaines in Swan, Iowa. In 1885 she and her husband moved to Phillips County, Kansas. To this union were born seven children, five boys and two girls and one adopted daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away June 12, 1917, one daughter, Susan L. and four sons, Sylvester O., John W., Harold J., and Carl I. Gaines.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Kirwin, Kansas, and was faithful to all who knew her. Most of all she loved God and wanted her life to tell for Him.
