Peter C. Dechant Dies At Age 72.
Peter C. Dechant, prominent Ellis Countian, died Monday at his home at 500 East 18th St. He was 72.
He was a retired farmer. He also operated a grocery store on West 9th St. for many years.
His wife, Agnes, died in December, 1965. He also was preceded in death by a son, Richard in June, 1966.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Howard (Marcella) Kaufman, Wichita; Mrs. William (Barbara) Sauer, Hays; Miss Martina Dechant, and Miss Philomene Dechant, both of the home; Mrs. Lee (Lillian, Yeager, Farmington, Mo.; Mrs. Virgil (Ester) Stegman, Salina; Mrs. Don (Annie) Bernbeck, Lakin, three sons, Alphonse, Alfred and Vernon, all of Hays; 24 grandchildren; a brother Cornel, Hays; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Dechant, Mrs. John Speier, Miss Rosie Dechant, all of Hays.
He was a veteran of WW1.
A Pontifical Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Cyril Vogel of Salina at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 18th and Milner. Bishop Vogel will be assisted by Msgr. Armand Girard.
The block of which Immaculate Heart of Mary Church stands was donated my Mr. and Mrs. Dechant in 1947.
The American Legion will conduct military graveside services at St. Joseph's Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at Brock's North Hill Chapel until service time.
