Cornel J. Dechant, 83, 1500 Milner, Hays, died Tuesday, June 12, at St. Anthony Hospital. He was born May 25, 1901 at Munjor to Cornel and Margaret (Rohr) Dechant.

He married Ursula Legleiter on June 9, 1925 at Antonino.

He was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. Augustine Council, #234 of Knights of Columbus at Liebenthal, the Bishop Cummingham Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus at Hays.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Emerald and Harry, both of Hays, Virgil, New Haven, Conn., LaVerne, Liebenthal; seven daughters, Bernice Schaffer, Hays, Mary Ann Meder, LaCrosse, Peggy Norris, Russell, Deloris Riedel, Rosalyn Giesick, Carol Jean Werth, all of WaKenney, Jeanette Gabel, Hays; a sister, Rose Dechant, Hays; 51 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald on July 3, 1963.

Services 10:30 a.m. Friday in church with Bishop George K. Fitzsimmons, Fr. Norbert Dlabal, Fr. Steve Heina; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays. The will be a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus honor guard Thursday evening and a parish wake service 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at Brock's.
