FORMER GRAINFIELD RESIDENT DIES
John Dechant, 59, of Oakley died Sunday night, July 2 at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley. He had been a patient in the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita for the past number of weeks, and was transferred to the hospital in Oakley last Friday.

Before moving to Oakley 14 years ago, he and his family lived in Grainfield where he operated a pool hall and restaurant. Since living in Oakley they operated a rooming house.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Church in Oakley with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora and five daughters, Mrs. James (Edna) Thomas, Oakley; Mrs. Verle (Dorothy) Cox, Mrs. Gilbert (Ethel) Gillespie, both of Grainfield; Mrs. Jay (Patsy) Sowers, Oakley and Judy of the home; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Pete and Corniel and three sisters, Mrs. John Spire, Mrs. John Dechant and Miss Rose Dechant, all of Hays, many other relatives and friends.
