Joseph B. Pyles, former Sheriff of Montgomery County and a prominent retired farmer of Poolesville, died Sunday night at Frederick Memorial Hospital of a heart ailment, aged 71 years. He was admitted to the hospital Sunday.

He was a son of the late Michael and Betty Pyles and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Brewer Pyles; two sisters, Mrs. John A. Jones and Mrs. E. W. White, Poolesville, and a brother, Dr. Charles Pyles, Hancock.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence of Mrs. E. W. White and interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. William B. Hilton, funeral director.
