Lanett, AL, Thursday, July 29, 1943,
Freak Accident Decapitates Man Here Last Thursday.
Lanett Bleachery & Day works employee killed.
Andrew (sic) O. Allen, 33 year old Lanett Bleachery & Dye Works employee, was killed instantly about 10:30 o'clock last Thursday night in a freak accident that severed his head from his body.

The accident occurred as Allen, a new employee of the Dye Works, stooped (to) cut off a switch. A piece of cloth which he had tied around his neck was caught in a pulley, wrapping around the pulley, decapitating the man, according to a report from Coroner Clyde Blakely who investigated the accident.

He is survived by his wife; one son, three brothers, and two sisters. His home was at Pepperell, Ala., and he had been working here only a short time.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Union Church in Tallapoosa Co.. Burial was in the churchyard with Johnson & Blakely in charge.

NOTE: He was married to Mary Edna Hall on Apr. 25, 1933 in Chambers Co., AL. They had one son, Joshua Wilson (called J.W.) who was born Sept. 15, 1934 in Alabama and died June 10, 1995 in Bumpass, VA.
