After the Civil War, Samuel Carrick moved with his parents to Boone County, MO (abt 1870) where they settled near Perche Creek. After the death of his father he cared for his mother. Samuel and his family moved to another farm in the area. He and Laura (Wilhite) had 4 children, one who died as an infant. After the birth of the youngest (Gracie) Laura passed away and Mary Francis Stidham was hired to care for the children. They later married, and in the early 1900's Sam moved the family first to south Central Kansas, then to Weableau, Hickory County, Missouri. Here he purchased land in town which later was traded, in part, for the farm of Samuel Glover Williams. He farm the land for sometime before Glover convinced him to again do a property switch so Glover and family could return to their homestead. In the late 1910's Sam returned his family to Boone County. Later in his life he was a grocer in Columbia. After the death of Mary Francis he married Artimisha Elizabeth GRABNER (1925). She cared for him until his death. Surviving children were: Leatha Pearl (Dixon) Hawkins, Boone County; Clyde Green Dixon, Kansas City, MO and Gracie Mable (Dixon) Schawo (Liberal, KS.
