Ernest Shindel, 90, of North Prince St., died Monday, February 15, 2010, at home. Born December 25, 1919, in Annville, he was a son of the late Clark and Sallie E. (Deininger) Shindel. After retiring from the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, he formed Father and Son Masons with his son and did odd jobs in the community. He was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, a Purple Heart recipient while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, attended Living Waters Chapel, Lebanon, and built several houses in the Palmyra area. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Julia B. (Spalding) Shindel; children, Linda, wife of Dennis Lubold of Hershey, Wendy, wife of Dale Teets of Palmyra, Julie, wife of Tim Snyder of Harrisburg, Larry, husband of Sharon Shindel of Middletown, and David, husband of Gloria Shindel of Harrisburg; brother, Henry Shindel of Annville; sister, Ruth Waltermeyer of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Buse Funeral Home, 145 N. Grant St., Palmyra, preceded by a viewing from 6 p.m. Private interment in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville.
