Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at First Presbyterian Church, Pipestone, with Rev. Daniel Billings officiating.
Casket bearers were her grandsons, Darren, Toby, Brian, Brent, Troy and Bob Baartman.
Interment was in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.
Claretta Baartman was born to Peter and Winnie (VanderWoude) Zeinstra on April 27, 1927 on the family farm in Fountain Prairie Township, Pipestone County, where she was raised and attended country school in District #38.
She married Bert "Bart" Baartman on July 20, 1946 in Holland. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in Aetna Township of Pipestone County. In 1966, they moved to Pipestone.
After moving to Pipestone, Claretta worked at the Kings Court Motel. Two years later, she became employed at the Pipestone County Medical Center. She continued to work there for 22 years. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.
Her husband preceded her in death on July 22, 2003. Following his death, she continued to reside at home.
She suffered from complications following surgery this past fall. On Friday, Feb. 24 she was taken to Sioux Valley Hospital.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone where she had served as a deacon; was a member of Pipestone Christian Women's Club where she volunteered her time; was a member of the Pipestone Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her two sons, Bruce (Caroline) Baartman and Curt (Deb) Baartman, all of Ruthton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her brother, Bernard Zeinstra, Holland and her sister, Pearl Pritchett, Pipestone.
She was preceded in death by her husband; twin sons, Peter and Pleun Baartman; one grandson, Shawn Baartman; four brothers, infant Melvin, Felix, Floyd and Harvey and two sisters, Alvera Klingbile and Sylvia Overgaauw.
