Eliza Ann Reynolds was born Feb. 16, 1841, near Peru, Indiana, and died at her home in Ollie, IA., Keokuk county, April 24, 1926.
She came to Keokuk county in 1853. She was married to James Gilbert Goss of Talleyrand, IA., May 18th, 1862, at the home of her parents, B. C. and Sarah Reynolds of Lancaster, Iowa, where she made her home for three years while her husband served in the great Civil War, in which he enlisted shortly after their marriage. On his return they took up a homestead in Northwest Iowa, near Peterson, Clay county, where they resided for several years. Then they moved to Des Moines to care for their aged parents until finally they moved to Ollie near the home of their boy and girlhood days, where they have since resided. Mrs. Goss was converted when in her youth and became a member of the United Brethren church, afterward joining the Ollie M. E. church, where she has been a long and faithful member, and her place was always filled whenever she was able to attend.
There were ten children born to this union, three sons and seven daughters, of which there are five daughters and one son left to mourn her death, Mrs. Addie Mae McClargan of Ollie, IA.; Joseph Edward, Quappelle, Canada, Mrs. Lois Almeda Smith of Sewickley, PA., Erma Viola Richardson of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Lucy J. Fox of Anthon, Iowa, and Edith Crary of Sioux City, Iowa. Those having preceded her in death are James Gilbert, Jr., Laura Ann, infant son, and Leona. Five brothers living and four brothers and one sister who had preceded her in death. Other relatives and a host of friends who mourn the loss of a dear one.
Funeral services were held in the Ollie M. E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, April 27th, 1926, conducted by a former pastor and friend, Rev. Thomas Petitt of Des Moines, Iowa, assisted by the pastor, B. G. Hankins of Richland and Rev. King of the Ollie Baptist church.
To know Mrs. Goss was to love her, her friends being numbered by her acquaintances.
She was a most patient sufferer through her sickness always thoughtful of those waiting upon her and appreciating the many kindnesses of her friends. The pall bearers, her nephews, Clarence Reynolds, Ollie, Earl Reynolds, Lancaster, Clem Reynolds, Delta, Lloyd Reynolds, Hayesville, Art Reynolds, Sigourney, Bennie Reynolds, Lancaster.
