Chauncey Donaldson Colton was the son of Jonathan Strong Colton and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Donaldson and the husband of Emily W. Smith. He was a farmer. He was also a co-worker of Rev. Owen Lovejoy in operating the local Underground Railroad to help fugitive slaves in escaping to Canada.
