Dr. Dempsey D. Haines, 326 Washington Avenue, Charleroi, one of the oldest practicing physicians in Pennsylvania died early Sunday in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He was 94.

He enjoyed good health and continued his medical practice until ten days ago when he became ill and was admitted to the hospital.

Dr. Haines was born in Kirby, Greene Co., February 15, 1865, a son of Cyrenius and Mary Ann Pride Haines.

He attended Waynesburg College and was a 1903 graduate of Western University of Pennsylvania now the University of Pittsburgh Medical School.

It was the same year of his graduation from medical school that he actively engaged in the fight against a smallpox epidemic in Pittsburgh.

He practiced for some 20 years in Allenport and since March 1924 in Charleroi. In June, 1953, he was honored as a 50-year member of the Washington Co. Medical Society.

His wife, Similda, a native of Perry Township, Greene County, died in 1956 at the age of 90.

Dr. Haines was a member of the Washington County and Pennsylvania Medical Societies, Asbury Methodist Church, Greene County Independent Order of Odd Fellows 1030 and Caligren Encampment, 245, both in Charleroi.

Surviving are a son, D. Clyde Haines, Burgettstown, A daughter, Ethel, wife of Lloyd Bowers, Charleroi, four Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
